Ashley Lindsey is a choreographer, director, and educator. He is known for his innovative movement style, artistic vision, and commitment to mentoring emerging performers. After 16 years in NYC, he relocated to Los Angeles, where he continues to develop his artistic work in film, theater, and live performance.
He began his professional career with the Limón Dance Company, touring across five continents and performing works by José Limón, Anna Sokolow, Jonathan Fredrickson, and Donald McKayle. He later danced with The Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Helen Simoneau Danse, and various NYC-based project dance companies. His performance credits span commercial, film, and fashion, including the feature film Bolden, New York Fashion Week, and national commercials and campaigns for Target and ESPN.
As a choreographer, Ashley’s work has been commissioned by Charlotte Ballet II, Limón II, Chapman University, Flight Path Dance Project, Elon University, and his alma mater, UNCSA. His work has been presented at the Peridance Salvatore Capezio Theater, Capezio Ace Awards, Reverb and White Wave International Dance Festivals, and the Dance for Life Festival in Los Angeles.
In 2022, he co-founded GXA CREATIVE with longtime collaborator Grady Bowman, creating visually striking work across Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theater, TV/film, opera, circus, and concert dance. They have choreographed, produced, and directed numerous dance films, including DWELLING, LIKE SUGAR, and The Way Back. These films have garnered recognition and have been official selections at the BronzeLens Film Festival, Dance Camera West, ADF’s Movies By Movers, Greensboro Dance Film Festival, and ReThink Film Festival, and have been featured on Dancefilmmaking.com and DanceMagazine.com.
In 2019, Ashley was appointed Artistic Director of UNCSA’s Summer Dance Intensive, and in 2021, he joined the UNCSA School of Dance faculty as a visiting guest professor. He has taught at Duke University, Elon University, Steps on Broadway, The Limón Institute, Kanyok Arts Initiative, and Regional Dance America. He has also taught workshops in Japan, Bermuda, China, and Mexico.
